Supreme Court Refuses to Revive Plea Deals for Alleged 9/11 Plotters

The U.S. Supreme Court on Oct. 19 rejected bids by Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and two other men charged in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks to revive plea agreements that would have spared them the death penalty.

Under the deals, Mohammed, Walid bin Attash and Mustafa al-Hawsawi would have pleaded guilty in exchange for life sentences. The agreements were later thrown out.

The justices gave no explanation. Justice Brett Kavanaugh did not take part in considering the petition from Mohammed and al-Hawsawi.

The men’s joint military commission trial at Guantanamo Bay is scheduled for early June 2028, according to The Hill.
