TUCSON, Ariz. — A man was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries after a shooting near South Park Avenue and East Drexel Road about 3:30 a.m. Friday, Tucson police said.
Details released by Friday afternoon were sparse. Police confirmed the time, the intersection, and that the victim was a man whose injuries were considered life-threatening. They did not name him, describe a suspect, or say whether the shooting happened in a home, a yard, or a vehicle. The investigation is open. Tips can go to 88-CRIME.
The corner is not a new crime scene for the department. KOLD noted that Friday’s shooting was at least the third near Park and Drexel this year.
On Jan. 24, 32-year-old Antonio Alvarado Escoboza was found shot to death in the front yard of a home in the area. Police said 14-year-old Christian Andres Duarte was charged with first-degree murder, minor in possession of a firearm, and discharging a firearm inside city limits.
On March 28, 48-year-old Annemarie Landavazo was killed at the scene and a 39-year-old man was wounded. Police have not identified a suspect in that shooting and are still asking for information through 88-CRIME.
Friday’s case has not been publicly tied to either of those investigations. Grouping them is about place, not a claim that one person is responsible for all three. South-side residents have watched the same intersection generate a homicide, a double shooting, and now another victim in critical condition inside nine months.
Detectives typically withhold names until family is told and until they know whether the wounded man can be interviewed. A suspect description, if one exists, had not been posted by Tucson police in the first-day accounts.
