Crime scene tape

PHOENIX — Phoenix police arrested a 53-year-old man in a hit-and-run that killed a pedestrian near 32nd Avenue and Indian School Road, ABC15 reported.

Nivyabandi Augustin was arrested Oct. 27 in connection with the Oct. 23 crash that killed a 64-year-old man, according to ABC15.

Police said license plate reader cameras helped investigators identify the vehicle involved, ABC15 reported.

Authorities have not released the victim’s name.

Augustin is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. Online court records did not immediately list an attorney who could comment on his behalf.

Pedestrian deaths remain a persistent problem in Phoenix, which regularly ranks among the most dangerous large U.S. cities for people on foot.
