SURPRISE — Voters in the Dysart Unified School District will decide Proposition 421, a $71 million bond aimed at a fast-growing corner of northwest Surprise, ABC15 reported.

The bond would pay for a new elementary school and $10 million for land for a future high school, according to ABC15.

About 600 high school students in the area travel more than 7 miles to Willow Canyon High School, and about 500 students in grades 5 through 8 are bused out of the area, ABC15 reported. Asante Preparatory Academy is projected to be over capacity in 2027-28.

Michael Planeta of Citizens for a Better Surprise told ABC15 the measure’s estimated cost for a typical homeowner would fall from about $6 a month to about $3.

ABC15 reported it has been 21 years since the district’s last bond.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Voters can review ballot measures and polling information through the Maricopa County Elections Department.
