Scott’s Generations Jewish Deli in Central Phoenix Closing Oct. 25 After Nearly 40 Years

PHOENIX — Scott’s Generations, the family-owned New York–style Jewish deli that has fed central Phoenix since 1989, will close for good on Sunday, Oct. 25, the Snyders announced this week.

Scott Snyder and his late father, Gene, opened the shop after moving from New York, first on Missouri Avenue and later near Glendale Avenue and 7th Street. Scott’s son, Ross Snyder, later became a partner, making it a third-generation business known for overstuffed sandwiches, homemade soups, and kosher-style classics.

Scott told Arizona’s Family the family decided not to renew the lease and “just do something different” after 37 years. He called the run bittersweet and said customers and former employees had become family. Community reaction after the announcement was “overwhelming,” with calls and emails sharing memories, the Snyders said.

Ross invited first-timers and regulars alike to stop in for one more sandwich before the last day. KTAR reported the deli’s hours as 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays through the final service on Oct. 25.

For decades the counter was a gathering place for Valley families who wanted a taste of the old neighborhood deli tradition. Closing ends that chapter, but the Snyders asked patrons to share one more meal and memory before the doors shut.
