LeBron James had the last word in his Philadelphia 76ers debut Tuesday night, helping the Sixers beat the New York Knicks 106-100 on the night New York raised its championship banner, NPR reported.
Knicks fans greeted James at the free-throw line with chants of “We don’t want you!” James and agent Rich Paul had said New York would have been his first choice in free agency if the Knicks hadn’t won their first title since 1973.
The 41-year-old finished with 14 points and nine rebounds and traded words with fans courtside as Spike Lee tried to play peacemaker. Tyrese Maxey led Philadelphia with 28 points, Jaylen Brown added 19, and Joel Embiid had 13 points and 11 rebounds.
