Republican Vivek Ramaswamy confirmed Tuesday that his campaign produced a video featuring the estranged mother of his Democratic opponent in the Ohio governor’s race, Amy Acton, drawing sharp criticism from Acton’s campaign, ABC News reported.
In the video, Donna Arthur says she loves her daughter but calls her a “liar” who “lies about her past.” Acton has said her mother abused her and stood by the man who sexually abused her.
Ramaswamy told reporters the ad was “legitimate” and that Arthur was not compensated. He said he would rather the race focus on issues and accused Acton of refusing to debate him.
Acton’s campaign condemned the ad. The race is considered a toss-up heading into Nov. 3.
