LAS VEGAS — Nearly 30 years after Tupac Shakur was shot on a Las Vegas street, the man convicted of setting up the killing has been sentenced to 40 years to life in prison.
Duane “Keffe D” Davis, 63, a former gang leader, received two back-to-back terms of 20 years to life on Tuesday, one for first-degree murder and one for using a deadly weapon. He showed no emotion during the hour-long hearing. A jury found him guilty in August.
Shakur was 25 when he was shot in a September 1996 drive-by near the Las Vegas Strip, and he died days later. The case went unsolved for decades. Davis had talked publicly about his role in interviews and a memoir before he was charged in 2023.
The sentence closes one of the best-known open cases in music history.
