TEMPE — Arizona State starting cornerback Rodney Bimage Jr. will “probably be out for the year” after a right leg injury in Saturday’s win over Colorado, head coach Kenny Dillingham said.
Bimage was hurt in the first half while defending a Colorado screen pass. He was taken off the field on a medical cart with his leg in an air cast, according to Arizona Sports.
“Unfortunately, he’ll probably be out for the year unless something drastically changes. Probably won’t be a quick recovery,” Dillingham said after the game. “He’s worked his butt off to get to the point to be the starter here — and yeah, it’s painful to watch.”
The junior had been one of ASU’s top defensive backs this season with 26 tackles, five passes defended, 1.5 tackles for loss and a fumble recovery.
The defense rallied after the injury, recording four sacks and eight tackles for loss while holding the Buffaloes to 10 points in the 20-10 win.
“That guy gives everything he’s got every day — whether that’s a Tuesday practice or a Saturday game,” linebacker Owen Long said. “To see someone go down like that, obviously is not something that we want, but the team rallied around it.”
ASU, now 5-4, has three regular-season games left and will need others in the secondary to step up.
