Hobbs Forms Committee to Pitch Arizona as Home of New U.S. Space Academy

PHOENIX — Gov. Katie Hobbs has launched a statewide push to bring the proposed U.S. Space Academy to Arizona by creating the Arizona U.S. Space Academy Steering Committee, KTAR News reported.

The academy, a new service academy focused on space operations, was announced by President Donald Trump in an Aug. 28 executive order. NASA will lead it, and the agency wants classes to start by 2028.

Hobbs’ office argued Arizona is a natural fit because of its aerospace and defense industries, research universities and high-tech manufacturing base. The committee will bring together university leaders, industry partners, local communities and the Arizona Space Commission to prepare a proposal for NASA.

Trump will make the final site decision after recommendations from a commission chaired by NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman.
