Mold Forces University of Arizona Students Out of Coronado Residence Hall Rooms

TUCSON — Dozens of University of Arizona students have been moved out of rooms in Coronado Residence Hall after mold was found, Tucson station 13 News reported Friday through its partner Arizona’s Family.

Freshmen Lily Kingsbury and Ryleigh Beitler said people on their floor had been sick repeatedly and they noticed spots in their bathroom. They ran their own mold test, called maintenance, and crews checking rooms along the hall found what the students described as an infestation.

About two hours later, they received an email telling them to move out immediately for repairs, they said. It was not clear how many students got the notice, but reporters spoke with at least a dozen who were told to relocate.

Another freshman on a different floor said she had been sick for months and learned of her relocation by word of mouth rather than from the university.

The report did not include a response from the university on the number of students affected or the scope of repairs.
