APS Customers to Get About $14.70 Credit on November Bills

PHOENIX — Arizona Public Service customers will see a one-time credit of about $14.70 on their November electric bills after the Arizona Corporation Commission voted unanimously Thursday to approve it, KTAR News reported.

The money comes from an uncommitted balance of roughly $33.6 million in APS’ Renewable Energy Adjustment Charge fund, built up in part by the utility’s Green Power Partners program, which lets commercial and industrial customers voluntarily buy renewable energy credits.

That fund normally appears on residential bills as an “Environmental Benefits Surcharge” of about $2.49 a month. Customers will not be charged that surcharge on their November statements either.

Commissioner Lea Márquez Peterson said the credit comes at a good time for households that saw higher bills from heavy air-conditioning use over the summer.

All five commissioners, including Chairman Nick Myers and Vice Chair Rachel Walden, supported the measure.
