DOUGLAS, Ga. — Four adults and the man police say shot them died in an apparent murder-suicide late Friday at a home on the outskirts of Douglas, Georgia, about 200 miles southeast of Atlanta.
“Investigators believe this was an apparent murder-suicide involving immediate family members who reside in the home,” Police Chief Brannen Pruette said Saturday.
Officers answering an emergency call shortly after 11 p.m. found a woman still alive. She later died at a hospital, bringing the death toll to five, including the shooter.
Pruette said the same woman had called police earlier in the day to complain that her husband was smoking in the house.
The shooting came a week after a block party shooting in nearby Vienna, Georgia, killed two people and injured 35.
