Two Former FBI Officials Charged With Lying to Congress About Hunter Biden Laptop Probe

WASHINGTON — Two former FBI intelligence officials who worked on foreign election interference were charged Friday with making false statements to Congress about their roles in investigating Hunter Biden’s laptop before the 2020 election, the Associated Press reported.

Nikki Floris and Bradley Benavides surrendered and appeared in federal court in Washington, where their lawyers asked for a quick hearing to contest the charges.

The Justice Department alleges the two lied to Congress in 2023 about a foreign-influence task force’s involvement in investigations of Biden and about what they knew of the laptop.

Floris’ attorneys called her “a patriot” with nearly 20 years of service and said the charges were filed “on the say-so of politicians, not on the facts,” noting the timing just before an election.

The case was filed 10 days before the Nov. 3 midterm elections.
