WASHINGTON — The Trump administration this week dropped two appeals tied to its planned overhaul of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, FOX 10 reported.
The program forgives remaining federal direct loans for government, nonprofit, military, public school and other public-service workers after 120 qualifying monthly payments.
In 2025, President Trump ordered that workers be disqualified if Education Secretary Linda McMahon determined their employers had a “substantial illegal purpose.” Federal judges blocked the resulting rule in June.
U.S. District Judge Myong Joun in Boston sided with Democratic-led states, cities and nonprofits that argued the rule would let the department target groups supporting causes such as immigrant rights and transgender health care. Trump has said activist groups have exploited the program.
