GOODYEAR — The Goodyear Police Department says a former officer misused its Flock automated license plate reader system and would have been fired if he had not resigned, Arizona’s Family reported Friday.
Internal affairs flagged a possible policy violation during a routine audit of Flock activity in July. The officer was placed on leave and cut off from department computer systems.
Goodyear asked Glendale police to review whether the conduct was criminal, and Glendale investigators found insufficient evidence to support charges. The administrative investigation continued, and the officer, who joined the department in October 2023, resigned Sept. 17.
The completed investigation found three violations: abuse of authority, violation of the body-worn camera policy and dishonesty.
Police Chief Brian Issitt said in a statement that “accountability does not end when an employee resigns,” stressing the public’s trust in how officers handle sensitive information.
