PEORIA — Peoria police have arrested six people accused of using stolen customer credit card data to buy about $1.4 million in merchandise from Walmart.com and ship it overseas, KTAR News reported Friday.
Police identified the suspects as Thien Tran, 42; Uy Vu Phan, 55; Minh Ngoc Nguyen, 57; Hie Xuan Le, 24; Hoài Nguyen Nguyen, 30; and Hailey Hang Nguyen, 26. Each was booked into the Maricopa County jail on a $500,000 cash-only bond.
The two-month investigation began after a Walmart delivery driver noticed multiple packages with different names going to the same Peoria home. Investigators say the group used card information stolen from Walmart customer accounts and sent the goods to Vietnam in shipping containers.
SWAT teams from Peoria, Mesa, Avondale and Goodyear served search warrants at the same time, with help from Homeland Security Investigations and Walmart loss prevention. Officers recovered about $25,000 in merchandise, $35,000 in cash and $45,000 in gold bars.
Ten people were detained during the operation; four were later released, according to the report.
