Vance Accuses ASU and Eight Other Universities of J-1 Visa Abuse; ASU Denies It

TEMPE — Vice President JD Vance on Thursday named Arizona State University among nine universities he said should be investigated for overusing J-1 exchange visas at the expense of American graduate students and researchers, KTAR News reported.

“They’re using these visas way too much, they’re using them to undercut the wages of American grad students and American researchers, and it simply has to stop,” Vance said at a news conference where he also announced that Microsoft and other companies were suspended from a green card program for H-1B workers.

ASU rejected the accusation. The university said it educates more STEM majors than any other U.S. school, employs one of the country’s largest technical and scientific workforces, and has hired “in complete compliance with existing United States policy and law.”
