Democrats’ Top Senate Super PAC Puts $1.2 Million Into Mississippi Race

The Mississippi State Capitol in Jackson

Senate Majority PAC, the main super PAC for Senate Democrats, is spending an initial $1.2 million on statewide television in Mississippi through Election Day to help Democrat Scott Colom against Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith, Politico reported Tuesday.

Colom, a local prosecutor, has gained on Hyde-Smith in recent public polling and drawn new attention from national Democrats in a deep-red state.

Some senators, including Georgia’s Raphael Warnock and Arizona’s Ruben Gallego, had urged the party to invest more in the race.

The move is part of a broader push by Democrats into Republican-leaning territory two weeks before the Nov. 3 midterms, as they seek to capitalize on a political environment they view as difficult for the GOP.

Republicans currently hold the Senate majority and are defending several seats this cycle.
