WNBA FINALS — The Golden State Valkyries won their first WNBA championship Saturday, beating the Atlanta Dream 68-63 in Game 7 behind 30 points from Gabby Williams, CBS News reported.

Williams added four blocks and three steals in 38 minutes. “All we heard last year: We don’t have no stars, we don’t have no talent,” she said. “Yeah right. We got good people. We got winners.”

Jordin Canada led Atlanta with 18 points. Dream star Angel Reese, who had 30 points and 16 rebounds in Game 2, was held to 8 points on 3-of-7 shooting. The Dream are now 0-4 in WNBA Finals appearances.

The Valkyries, in only their second season, are the first team to win a Game 7 since the league moved to a seven-game Finals last year. They went 32-12 in the regular season.

The league said it set an attendance record of 3.8 million fans across 330 regular-season games, with average attendance up 21%.

The offseason now turns to finding a successor for Commissioner Cathy Engelbert, who announced she will retire at the end of the year, The Associated Press reported via KTAR News. The next season tips off in May with a 50-game schedule.
