LUBBOCK, Texas — No. 13 Texas Tech piled up 328 rushing yards and ended No. 22 Arizona’s five-game winning streak with a 34-26 win Saturday, Arizona Sports reported.
Quarterback Tommy Castellanos, who got the start over Will Hamond, ran for 117 yards on 19 carries. Running back J’Koby Williams added 175 yards on 14 carries, 154 of them after halftime.
It was the most rushing yards Arizona has allowed this season and the second time it gave up more than 300 on the ground, after 303 at West Virginia, according to Arizona Sports.
Arizona led 17-7 late in the first half, helped by a 94-yard touchdown pass from Noah Fifita to Isaiah Mizell that gave the Wildcats a 10-7 lead. Texas Tech then scored 17 unanswered points on its next four drives.
“I’m proud of our team. They fought their asses off for four quarters, and we didn’t get it done,” coach Brent Brennan said. “There’s a lot of really great moments in that game and a lot of things we need to fix. … I believe in this team.”
Arizona falls to 6-2 and 3-2 in the Big 12, a costly loss for its conference title and College Football Playoff hopes. Texas Tech is 7-1 and 4-1.
