PHOENIX — The Phoenix Suns showed flashes of the team they want to be Friday night, but the Denver Nuggets pulled away for a 127-120 win that dropped Phoenix to 1-3, Arizona Sports reported.

Denver improved to 3-2. The Nuggets had entered the night ranked 25th in offensive efficiency after finishing in the top five in each of the past four seasons, but their offense found a rhythm against a Suns defense that again struggled to hold up.

Suns coach Jordan Ott said the energy and intensity his team had lacked early in the season was there in long stretches. “At times it felt like us,” Ott said after the game, according to Arizona Sports. He said execution was what fell short.

Center Oso Ighodaro said effort and energy were what the Suns had been missing in recent games.

Devin Booker called the performance a starting point. “It’s something to build on,” he said.

Phoenix played much of the second half without forward Dillon Brooks, who was ejected early in the second half on a flagrant 2 foul after scoring 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting.

The Suns will try to snap their skid in their next game as they look for a second win of the young season.
