PHOENIX — Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks was ejected early in the second half of Friday’s 127-120 loss to Denver after he appeared to kick Nuggets guard Jamal Murray below the belt, Arizona Sports reported.

The contact came on the follow-through of a Brooks shot attempt. Officials first called a common foul, but after a video review determined the play met the criteria for a flagrant 2, which carries an automatic ejection.

Brooks had been the Suns’ hottest player. He scored 12 points in the first quarter on 5-of-7 shooting and had 20 points with four made 3-pointers by halftime, according to Arizona Sports.

He finished with 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the field, two assists, one rebound and one steal.

Brooks had committed no more than three common fouls before the ejection. The veteran forward has had a number of run-ins with officials during his career.

The NBA typically reviews flagrant fouls after games and can add fines or suspensions. The league had not announced any further discipline as of Saturday morning.
