TEMPE — Last week’s storms delivered a winter’s worth of water to the Salt River Project’s reservoirs in a matter of days, ABC15 reported.
SRP captured roughly 120 billion gallons, enough to fill about 182,000 Olympic-sized pools, as flows on the Salt and Verde rivers hit some of the highest levels in decades.
In five days, SRP’s reservoir system rose from 53% to 70% of capacity.
“Just in a few days, we saw what we get all winter: January through May,” SRP senior hydrologist Stephen Flora said.
Flora said years like this help refill the system for dry stretches, though Arizona’s drought outlook still depends largely on winter snowpack.
