Rain washes out Phoenix Dia de los Muertos, Bug Fest and final State Fair day

A Day of the Dead procession

PHOENIX — Heavy rain washed out several long-planned Valley events over Halloween weekend, including the annual Dia de los Muertos festival at St. Mary’s Basilica, according to FOX 10 Phoenix.

The festival in downtown Phoenix will now take place the following Sunday, Nov. 8. In the meantime, the church planned a smaller Dia de los Muertos altar inside, FOX 10 reported.

‘We were looking at the forecast during the course of the week, and it became rather obvious we were gonna have a lot of rain,’ said Jerome Doris, parish manager at St. Mary’s Basilica.

Doris said the plaza would normally be filled with vendors and about 10 food trucks.

Bug Fest at the Arizona Boardwalk and the last scheduled day of the Arizona State Fair were also canceled because of the weather.
