PHOENIX — Friday could be Phoenix’s final 100-degree day of the year, with showers and storms on the way this weekend, the National Weather Service told KTAR News.
Moisture from Rachel, now downgraded from a hurricane, is expected to combine with a low-pressure system off California. Storms could arrive as early as Saturday afternoon and continue off and on through Sunday afternoon, NWS meteorologist Katherine Berislavich said.
The best chance of rain is Sunday morning. The Phoenix area could see about a quarter to three-quarters of an inch, Berislavich said.
Wind is another concern. She said non-thunderstorm gusts could reach 35 to 45 mph, and the weather service posted that gusts of 35 to 55 mph are possible across the region Sunday. A Wind Advisory covers parts of southwest and south-central Arizona Sunday morning through the afternoon.
Residents should secure patio furniture and avoid driving through flooded roads.
