The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum

LOS ANGELES — No. 2 Ohio State lost 30-18 at Southern California on Saturday without injured quarterback Julian Sayin, one of seven Top 25 teams to fall in Week 9, The Associated Press reported via KTAR News.

It was the fourth straight week that a No. 1 or No. 2 team lost to an unranked opponent, according to the AP. The Buckeyes, now with two losses, host Oregon next Saturday.

No. 1 Miami escaped North Carolina 38-35 and is expected to stay on top for a third straight week. No. 6 Utah is in line to crack the top five for the first time since 2019 after beating Cincinnati 49-25.

Six teams ranked between Nos. 17 and 25 lost, including No. 22 Arizona at No. 13 Texas Tech. No. 17 Florida fell to No. 3 Georgia, No. 19 SMU lost to Syracuse, No. 20 Northwestern lost to Oregon, No. 24 Oklahoma State fell to Iowa State and Iowa shut out No. 25 Wisconsin 30-0.

USC’s win was its first over a top-five team since the 2018 Rose Bowl, the AP said, and could return the Trojans to the rankings. New Mexico, 7-1, could earn its first-ever ranking.

The new AP Top 25 is scheduled for release Sunday afternoon.
