Former President Barack Obama campaigned for Democrats in Ohio on Saturday and sharply criticized Republican gubernatorial nominee Vivek Ramaswamy for an ad featuring the estranged mother of Democratic rival Amy Acton, CBS News reported.
“In recent days, we’ve seen there is no line he will not cross, no low he will not sink to,” Obama said, adding that voters should expect decency from public officials. He appeared with Acton and former Sen. Sherrod Brown, who is challenging Republican Sen. Jon Husted.
The ad shows Acton’s birth mother, Donna Arthur, calling her a liar. Arthur lost custody of her children after her husband was indicted on a charge of raping Acton when she was a child. Republican Gov. Mike DeWine and other Ohio GOP leaders have urged that the ad be pulled, while President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance have defended it.
Obama, 65, also campaigned in Michigan on Saturday night as Democrats try to flip Midwestern battlegrounds ahead of Nov. 3.
