ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Mary Peltola and her family had minor injuries Saturday when another vehicle crashed into the car taking them to a campaign event, her campaign said, the Associated Press reported.
The family was headed to the Alaska Federation of Natives Annual Banquet. Campaign manager Cheryl Bruce said Peltola was in “good spirits,” but doctors recommended she reschedule events planned for Sunday and Monday.
The crash delayed Peltola’s eight-stop “Alaska Always Tour” in the race’s final week; she plans to resume Tuesday in Homer.
Peltola, a former congresswoman and Alaska Native, is trying to unseat Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan in one of the country’s most closely watched races. The Justice Department last week sued to block certification if Sullivan loses, citing possible confusion with another candidate named Daniel J. Sullivan Jr. on the ballot.
