PALM BEACH, Fla. — A NORAD F-16 intercepted a civilian plane that entered restricted airspace near President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort on Saturday, using what the military calls a “headbutt maneuver,” CBS News reported.
Around 12:20 p.m. ET, the fighter flew close in front of the plane to get the pilot’s attention, a standard tactic, NORAD said. The pilot then made contact and flew safely out of the area.
The aircraft had violated a Temporary Flight Restriction, and its pilot could be met by federal authorities after landing and face enforcement action, NORAD said. The FAA routinely issues such restrictions when the president travels.
Trump was in West Palm Beach that day to cast an early ballot before traveling to Georgia for a rally.
