Utah Jazz forward Jaren Jackson Jr. tore the MCL in his right knee and will be re-evaluated in six weeks, the team announced Tuesday, CBS Sports reported.
Jackson was hurt in the first quarter of Monday’s loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, his former team, when Ty Jerome fell into his knee. ESPN reported the injury will not require surgery, according to CBS Sports.
Utah also lost Lauri Markkanen in the first quarter of the same game with a wrist injury. The team said Markkanen is day-to-day. Neither player returned, and the two combined for just 16 minutes.
The injuries leave the Jazz thin in the frontcourt. Utah traded center Walker Kessler to the Los Angeles Lakers in an offseason sign-and-trade, and short-term starter Jusuf Nurkić is also hurt, CBS Sports reported.
The Jazz are 1-3 to start the season.
