PHOENIX — Enjoy the mid-80s while they last: forecasters say a wet, stormy pattern will roll into Arizona starting Friday and could bring flooding over Halloween weekend.
Wednesday and Thursday stay warm and mostly dry in the Valley, with highs near 86 and 87 and thickening high clouds, according to Arizona’s Family and FOX 10 Phoenix forecasters.
A disturbance will draw tropical moisture into the state Friday, Oct. 30, with showers and thunderstorms possible as early as the morning. Highs drop to around 76. Heavy downpours could trigger minor flooding of washes and low-water crossings, and FOX 10 said scattered flash floods are possible across the desert and High Country.
Saturday, Halloween, looks like a brief break, with mostly cloudy skies, a high near 78 and lingering showers mainly over higher terrain north and east of Phoenix.
A stronger system arrives late Saturday night. FOX 10 described it as an atmospheric river pulling more moisture into Arizona, and Arizona’s Family said widespread rain is likely across central Arizona through Sunday with a high near 72. With soils already wet from Friday, poor-drainage and low-lying areas could see more flooding.
Showers taper off Monday, and sunny skies return Tuesday with highs in the low 70s.
Drivers should never cross flooded roads. Under Arizona’s “Stupid Motorist Law,” drivers who go around barricades into flooded areas can be charged for the cost of their rescue.
