GILBERT — A 21-year-old driver suspected of being impaired crashed a pickup truck into a Gilbert home early Sunday while fleeing police, injuring a resident, the Gilbert Police Department said, according to KTAR News.
Officers saw the truck being driven recklessly in the Downtown District near Elliot and Gilbert roads just after 1:30 a.m., and later watched it do a burnout near Guadalupe and Gilbert roads, police said.
When officers tried to pull the truck over, the driver sped off eastbound. Police said he tried to turn at Burk Street and slammed into a house. A 45-year-old resident suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.
The driver, identified as Gannon Dodge, was booked on charges of aggravated assault, endangerment, reckless driving, DUI and extreme DUI. Police believe speed and impairment both played a role.
