PHOENIX — Weekend floodwaters have left at least six Arizona state highways closed, and state transportation officials say they cannot yet say when any of them will reopen.
According to a release from the Arizona Department of Transportation, the closures include State Route 89A between Sedona and Kachina Village, from mileposts 375 to 397, which runs through Oak Creek Canyon.
ADOT also listed State Route 179 in Sedona near milepost 313, State Route 73 between Indian Pine and White River from mileposts 351 to 357, and State Route 238 between Maricopa and Gila Bend.
State Route 288 is closed from mileposts 271 to 302, and northbound State Route 377 is closed north of Heber-Overgaard between mileposts 1 and 13, the agency said.
ADOT said crews in northern Arizona are using plow trucks to respond to rockfall, and there is no estimated time for the roads to reopen. The agency asked drivers not to go around closure barricades.
There was some good news over the weekend. In an earlier release, ADOT said Interstate 17 had reopened in both directions after flooding-related closures, and it noted a closure on State Route 260 near Pinetop-Lakeside around milepost 350.
The National Weather Service had a Flood Watch in place for central and northern Arizona through Sunday. Rivers and creeks are still running high even as drier weather moves in.
Drivers can check current conditions at az511.gov, on the AZ511 app or by calling 511 before heading out.
