Flood Watch Hits Valley Friday as Two Storms Take Aim at Arizona

Storm clouds over Arizona

PHOENIX — A Flood Watch is set for Friday across Arizona’s lower deserts, including the Valley, as the first of two storms rolls in, Arizona’s Family reported.

The watch runs from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30. Forecasters expect a half-inch to an inch of rain in many desert areas, with isolated totals up to 2 inches possible.

After a lull Saturday, a second and stronger storm is expected Sunday, and Arizona’s Family said a broader Flood Watch is likely.

Temperatures will tumble as the systems move through. The forecast calls for a high near 87 Thursday, the upper 70s Friday, around 80 Saturday and the low 70s Sunday. Drier weather is expected to return Monday.

Heavy rain on hard desert ground can quickly flood washes, underpasses and low-lying roads. Authorities urge drivers never to cross flooded roadways; Arizona’s Stupid Motorist Law can make drivers who get stranded pay for their rescue.

Residents can follow updates from the National Weather Service in Phoenix and check road conditions at az511.gov.
