FLAGSTAFF — A woman driving the wrong way on a Flagstaff street crashed into a parked Arizona Department of Public Safety patrol car and was arrested for driving under the influence, according to the agency’s Highway Patrol Division.
DPS shared body-camera video of the aftermath on Sunday, Oct. 4. In it, a trooper checks on the driver and asks what happened; her answer is hard to make out. The trooper then has her sit on the curb and asks how much she had to drink that night. “I’m not too sure,” she replies, according to the video, which FOX 10 Phoenix also published.
“You didn’t see the police car with the lights on in front of you?” the trooper asks. “No, I didn’t,” she says. The trooper notes the patrol vehicle had been parked in the same spot all night.
Troopers determined the woman was impaired and arrested her for DUI, DPS said. The agency did not release her name, the street where the crash happened, when it occurred or the specific charges she faces. No injuries were mentioned in the agency’s post.
DPS used the video as a warning ahead of the fall season. “Before you choose to drink, choose to find a safe and sober ride home,” the agency said, suggesting rideshares, taxis and designated drivers, and adding that doing so would also “prevent you from rear-ending law enforcement vehicles.”
Wrong-way crashes remain a serious concern on Arizona roads. The Arizona Department of Transportation urges drivers who see a wrong-way vehicle to pull over safely and call 911 with the location and direction of travel.
