Apache Junction Police Looking for the Owners of Two Horses Found Wandering Near Broadway

APACHE JUNCTION — Two horses are waiting for their owners after Apache Junction police found them wandering near a roadway early Sunday morning.

Officers came across the animals in the area of Starr Road and Broadway Avenue in the early hours of Oct. 4, the Apache Junction Police Department said. “They are safe and being temporarily cared for while we work to find their owners,” the department wrote in a social media post, asking the public to share it.

Police said they do not know who the horses belong to or where they came from. Anyone who wants to claim them will need to show proof of ownership before officers release them.

Loose livestock is a familiar sight in Apache Junction, where many properties on the city’s east side have room for horses. Parts of rural Arizona are open range, but owners can be held responsible when animals stray onto roads and cause crashes, so officials encourage owners to check gates and fencing regularly, especially at night.

Anyone who recognizes the horses or knows their owner can call the Apache Junction Police Department at 480-982-8260.
