Elon Musk Becomes Biggest Known Midterm Donor, Giving $276 Million to Help Republicans

NEW YORK — Elon Musk has given more than $276 million since July to help Republicans keep control of Congress, making him the largest known donor in this year’s midterms, the Associated Press reported, confirming figures first published by The New York Times.

The total includes $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, the main super PAC backing GOP Senate candidates; $76 million to Musk’s America PAC, which is again running a turnout operation; and $10 million to a PAC supporting Texas Senate nominee Ken Paxton.

It’s a sharp reversal from last May, when Musk said he planned to cut back on political spending. He has kept a lower public profile than in 2024, and he and President Donald Trump have reconciled after a falling-out.

Republicans hold a large fundraising edge over Democrats heading into the Nov. 3 election.
