CRASH SHUTS US 93: Southbound Lanes Slammed Shut South of Nothing, No Reopening in Sight

Two-lane desert highway lined with Joshua trees in northwestern Arizona

Drivers heading south on US 93 are hitting a wall.

A crash has closed the southbound lanes of US 93 south of the tiny Mohave County stop of Nothing, the Arizona Department of Transportation said Thursday, Nov. 5.

The wreck happened at milepost 156, south of the State Route 97 junction, according to ADOT.

State transportation officials have not given any estimate for when the southbound side will reopen, so travelers should be ready for a long wait or a different route. ADOT is warning motorists to expect delays and to find an alternate way around the closure.

There is some good news for northbound traffic: those lanes are not affected, ADOT said.

US 93 is a key link between the Phoenix area, Wickenburg, Wikieup and Kingman, and it carries a steady stream of travelers and trucks heading to and from Las Vegas. A closure on this remote stretch can leave drivers with few easy detours, so checking conditions before leaving is a smart move.

ADOT has not released details about the cause of the crash or whether anyone was hurt.
