PHOENIX — Demolition has started on buildings at 840 N. Central Ave. to make way for the long-discussed $125 million Atari Hotel in downtown Phoenix, ABC15 reported.
An executive with Intersection Development, the group behind the video game-themed hotel and entertainment project, said construction is set to start this week, according to ABC15.
Over the past several years, Intersection has bought up property along Central Avenue between Roosevelt and McKinley streets, spending more than $22 million across multiple deals, ABC15 reported.
The company plans to invest more than $200 million to redevelop the area just south of the hotel site with multifamily housing and restaurant space.
The project sits along the Valley Metro light rail line on Central Avenue near the Roosevelt Row arts district, one of downtown Phoenix’s busiest redevelopment corridors.
An opening date for the hotel has not been announced.
