TEMPE — Arizona State University will honor veterans and military families with its annual Salute to Service events Nov. 6–16, highlighted by an F-35 flyover at Sun Devil Stadium, according to a university news release sent to the Thee Arizona Times tip inbox.

This year’s theme is “family,” recognizing the spouses, children and loved ones who serve alongside military members. ASU’s Matt Schmidt highlighted that role in the release. The university says it serves about 23,000 military-connected students.

Events open with a ROTC run at 6 a.m. Nov. 6. The play “A Piece of My Heart,” about women who served in Vietnam, runs Nov. 5–8 at the Empty Space Theater, with tickets $5 to $10. A Family Matters Brunch is set for Nov. 7.

At the Salute to Service football game against Colorado at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 7, the 310th Fighter Squadron from Luke Air Force Base is scheduled to perform an F-35 flyover.

Author and Marine veteran Phil Klay will speak Nov. 12 at the Carson Ballroom, and a family skate night is planned for Nov. 13 at Skateland in Mesa.

The 24th annual West Valley Veterans Pow Wow takes place from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Nov. 14 on Fletcher Lawn at ASU’s West Valley campus. It is free and open to the public.
