PHOENIX — Several Arizona highways shut down by last week’s flooding are open again, but a key route through Oak Creek Canyon remains closed, according to releases from the Arizona Department of Transportation.

ADOT said Tuesday, Nov. 3, that State Route 87 reopened near Winslow, between mileposts 344 and 346, and south of State Route 264, between mileposts 398 and 400. Both stretches had been closed because of heavy rain and flooding.

Later Tuesday, the agency said State Route 288 reopened between mileposts 271 and 302 after its own flood closure. SR 288 runs through rural Gila County toward Roosevelt Lake and the Young area.

State Route 89A remains closed between Sedona and Kachina Village, from milepost 375 to milepost 397, according to ADOT. That stretch includes the winding route through Oak Creek Canyon that connects Sedona and Flagstaff. ADOT said there is no estimated time for it to reopen.

The reopenings follow a multi-day storm that hit Arizona from Oct. 30 through Nov. 1, flooding communities from the Verde Valley to Winslow and forcing closures across northern and eastern Arizona.

ADOT reminded drivers to never drive into flooded roads or washes. The agency warned that hazards can be hidden under water and that just a few inches of running water can sweep a car away.

Real-time highway conditions are available on ADOT’s Arizona Traveler Information site at az511.gov, through the AZ511 app or by calling 511, according to the agency.
