PIMA COUNTY — Drivers on Interstate 10 between Tucson and Benson are now rolling over four freshly rehabilitated bridges, after the Arizona Department of Transportation announced Monday, Oct. 26, that it has wrapped up work at the Amole interchange.
The structures carry the interstate over the Empirita Road interchange and the Union Pacific Railroad line between mileposts 292 and 293, about 10 miles west of Benson in eastern Pima County.
According to ADOT, crews rehabilitated the bridge decks and the adjoining roadway and installed new guardrails throughout the work zone.
The $6.2 million project got underway in November 2025, meaning it took roughly a year to complete. ADOT has posted additional project details on its website.
I-10 is the main freight and travel corridor between southern Arizona and New Mexico, and bridge deck work like this is intended to extend the life of aging structures and reduce the need for emergency repairs.
