Showers, 30 mph Gusts Hit East Valley; Rain Returns Overnight: NWS

Storm clouds over the desert

PHOENIX — Rain showers moved through parts of metro Phoenix on Monday, with gusty wind in some areas, and more is expected overnight, the National Weather Service said, according to KTAR News.

NWS meteorologist Katherine Berislavich said showers would continue into the evening, followed by a lull, then ramp back up around 2 to 3 a.m.

“Then that will kind of continue through the morning, but we should start to see it end sometime around 10 [or] 11 a.m. tomorrow and push east out of our area,” she said.

Maricopa County rainfall data showed the East Valley received 0.04 to 0.28 inches as of 6:15 p.m., while the West Valley got 0.04 to 0.08 inches. Central Phoenix and Glendale had no measurable rain.

Heavier showers could bring wind gusts up to about 30 mph, Berislavich said, mostly in the East Valley. Lightning has been limited, but occasional strikes are possible.

Drivers are reminded to slow down on wet roads and never drive into flooded washes.
