CHANDLER — Construction has started on the next piece of the Interstate 10 widening between Phoenix and Casa Grande, an 11-mile stretch in both directions from Loop 202 to the Gila River, the Arizona Department of Transportation announced this week, KTAR News reported.
This is segment three of four in ADOT’s 26-mile I-10 Wild Horse Pass Corridor Project, a plan to ease congestion on the state’s busiest route between metro Phoenix and Tucson. Along the whole segment, ADOT is building an extra general-purpose lane each way, plus carpool lanes in both directions from Loop 202 south to Riggs Road.
The first segment, started in May 2024, replaced the I-10 bridges over the Gila River about 11 miles south of Loop 202, with finishing touches expected in November. The second, begun in January 2026, covers 10 miles from Gas Line Road to near Casa Grande’s Pinal Avenue/State Route 387 interchange, including a rebuilt Pinal Avenue interchange and a new one at Seed Farm Road.
ADOT expects all four segments to be completed by late 2029. Drivers should watch for lane restrictions in the work zones.
