AMMAN, Jordan — Jordanian security forces arrested three men Monday in Friday’s attack on a Greek Orthodox church during a funeral that killed nine people and wounded more than two dozen, CBS News reported.
The Public Security Directorate said the suspects were wounded in a dawn shootout in Karak governorate, south of Amman, and that no officers were hurt. Interior Minister Mazen Al-Faraya said the men put up “fierce resistance” before being taken into custody.
The attack happened at a church in the village of Hammoud in Karak, home to a Christian minority. No group has claimed responsibility, and authorities have not named the suspects or linked them to any militant organization.
King Abdullah II ordered authorities to respond with “an iron fist.” Earlier reports had put the death toll at seven.
