PERRY, Ga. — President Donald Trump announced at a campaign rally Saturday that Audi will build its first U.S. auto plant in Georgia, the Associated Press reported.
Trump said the Volkswagen-owned luxury brand would invest $4.2 billion near Macon in a factory producing 200,000 vehicles a year, crediting his tariff policies for the decision. Audi board chairman Gernot Döllner joined him onstage and said the plant would build the company’s “biggest and most premium SUVs.”
In a news release, Audi said the plant would create about 4,500 jobs, with construction scheduled to start in 2027 and production in the early 2030s.
The announcement came 10 days before the Nov. 3 midterms. Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Jackson thanked Trump, calling it the biggest economic deal in Georgia history.
