PHOENIX — A man died Saturday after Phoenix police officers shot him at an apartment complex in south Phoenix, the department said, according to KTAR News.
Officers were called about 12:45 p.m. to a report of a man holding a gun and a knife at a complex near Central Avenue and Roeser Road. Police said they found him leaving an apartment, still armed.
When he refused orders to drop the weapons, officers fired less-lethal PepperBall rounds, police said. He kept ignoring commands and raised his gun toward officers, who then opened fire.
Officers gave him first aid, and Phoenix firefighters took him to a hospital, where he died. The Arizona Department of Public Safety’s Major Incident Division is leading the investigation.
