DENNEHOTSO — Rescue crews pulled 30 people from flooded homes Thursday afternoon in Dennehotso, a Navajo community along State Route 160 in Arizona’s Four Corners region.
The 30 people were members of seven families, according to Arizona’s Family. The Navajo Department of Emergency Management sent its SHERP, an amphibious all-terrain rescue vehicle, and video released by Navajo Police showed it churning through deep water to reach homes.
Navajo Nation Fire and Rescue, Navajo EMS, the Navajo Division of Transportation, the Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Kayenta Fire Department all helped with the response.
The flooding capped a week of violent weather across Arizona, including a suspected tornado in Heber-Overgaard, another possible tornado near Dewey-Humboldt, damaging hail in the Phoenix area and floodwaters and rockslides in the eastern Arizona town of Clifton.
