Pinal County Rezones 4,695 Acres of State Land for a Massive Employment Hub

FLORENCE — A huge tract of state trust land in the far East Valley is now zoned for industrial use and is expected to go up for auction, KTAR News reported in partnership with the Phoenix Business Journal.

The Pinal County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved rezoning the 4,695-acre site and granted a Special District designation during an Oct. 1 special session. The designation applies to Arizona State Land Department property and secures entitlements before land is auctioned.

The county Planning and Zoning Commission had recommended approval 7-2 in September.

It isn’t clear who might develop the site, but the new zoning prohibits standalone data centers and utility-scale solar plants.
